conservation in action

Donations

Donations to The Otago Shore & Land Trust, established in 2023 by Ike & Jerad Haldan, help facilitate the many conservation initiatives of the Trust. From the Hīkoi o te Taoka (March of the Treasure) Art Trail to our Plant a Tree initiative, here at The Otago Shore and Land Trust we and our team are committed to our reaching our goal – to preserve nature’s song.

Preserving nature's song together

Hīkoi o te Taoka

Find out more about the Hīkoi o te Taoka, March of the Treasure, an impactive art trail that raised awareness and funds for the protection and preservation of our endangered endemic species. The Hīkoi o te Taoka focussed on the hoiho, the world’s rarest and critically endangered yellow-eyed penguin in 2026 and the ART IN ACTION campaign came to an end at a live and online Charity Auction in May.

You can still help us help them by donating!

Your Tree Here

In addition to preserving vegetative areas that already exist, the remaining land is being transitioned from a former working farm back to a native forest. Each winter, thousands of native trees, bushes, and shrubs are planted throughout the property. We are currently in the process of developing a 50-year planting plan that will see the full restoration of all areas on the property being transitioned to native forest.

You can help make this happen!

We provide Geolocations for Your Tree or Trees so that you know where your donated trees will grow and thrive. Share your tree’s location with your friends so that they know where your conservation efforts are growing.

Rehabilitation

Each year we care for hundreds of animals in need through our Rehabilitation Center located at The OPERA. Our current focus is on yellow-eyed penguins (hoiho) and little penguins (kororā) that are sick, injured, and/or suffering from malnutrition. In addition to penguins uplifted from among those living on our reserve, others in need are brought to us by the Wildlife Hospital Dunedin, Yellow Eyed Penguin Trust, and Department of Conservation.

You can directly help us to help them by donating to ensure we have the right resources required to save lives.
