Campaigns in Action

Our mahi in action

We have a 100 year plan – which means, there’s a lot of mahi, work, to do!

At The Otago Shore and Land Trust, our kaupapa is to Preserve Nature’s Song — a commitment that guides every decision we make and every action we take. It drives our mahi, our work in the day to day, and is based on meaningful, strategic campaigns, ensuring each one contributes to a much bigger vision.

Every tree planted, every habitat restored, and every species protected or supported is part of a long-term, interconnected effort to restore, regenerate, rehabilitate, and conserve the biodiversity of the places and species we care for. Our campaigns are designed not as standalone moments, but as purposeful steps within a journey that will surpass us, creating a better future for the generations to come. Rebuilding ecosystems, strengthening resilience of the land, the trees, and the creatures both large and small, on the land and in the sea, giving nature the space and support it needs to thrive.

Together, these collective actions help ensure that the biodiversity of the Otago Peninsula continue to flourish so nature’s song can be heard, now and in the future. We thank everyone who comes along with us on this critical journey.

Hikoi o te Taoka

The Hīkoi o te Taoka is an Art in Action campaign that brings threatened species into the heart of our communities. Through striking artist designed larger than life statues, it invites people to engage in their story, raising awareness, and generating vital support to protect and preserve Aotearoa’s precious biodiversity.

Your Tree Here

Plant a tree today – invest in the future for generations! Your Tree Here invites you to be part of a long-term vision to restore a historic working farm to its natural state. By planting a native tree, you help regenerate habitats, support wildlife, and strengthen biodiversity across the Otago Peninsula. From seed to soil, each tree planted truly counts!

Rehab Rebuild

Help us rebuild the Otago Shore and Land Trust’s vital wildlife rehabilitation centre and be part of the survival story! Our rehab is a lifeline for injured, sick, and vulnerable native penguins. Your support will help us build a state-of-the-art, fit-for-purpose space for healing, recovery, and, eventually, a safe and helathy release back to the wild.
